my first foray into this style. this is an rca 829 tube i picked up this weekend, set on a 8x10 sheet of glass and shot on polaroid 54..

lens was a carl meyer f/10 12", set at f/16 for 1/100, with roughly 24" of bellows draw. two bare flash heads on a 240 w-s pack, one aimed at the paper in the back, the other close by pointed down to light up the tube innards.

i also shot this in hp5+ at f/32 and f/64, i hope it turns out as well. i hope to do big prints from shots like this.

That's funny, me and Daniel were talking about tube amplifiers (valve for those in the UK) earlier today.

At my house we have audio geek fests where one of the pleasures are watching vacuum tubes glow... :smile: The thing is, they sound so good! Correctly maintained, they are incredibly reliable as well. My amp has tubes that are 45 years old, and still test over 95% good.

Back to photography. I love this image. I could definitely use a print of it for my vinyl / vacuum tube shrine...

i'm not building anything. i was searching for subjects to photograph and find vacuum tubes beautiful. they seem so artfully designed.

This is nice. It reminds me of an image I did of a larger valve/tube about twenty years ago by just placing it on some photographic paper and 'contact printing' it under the enlarger.

Takes me back 40 years to my time (26 yrs) in the Navy. this is a power tetrode. This baby can slug out about 250 watts and 400 mhz. Can't count the times I've changed these on many a ship..... great work and thanks!
