8x10 macro

Went to fellow APUG'er Gary B. (glbeas) house for a few hours yesterday, and played around with his 8x10. LF is new to me, so this was an interesting experience. Not a particularly exciting image, but hey, we were limited to his front yard. Rotory processed in Pyrocat - new developer to me also. Neg was terribly thin, so I intensified it in KRST 15 minutes, which resulted in at least a printable neg. Contact printed on Ilford MGWT with dodging on the right 1/3. Toned in KBT. Love those details. I really enjoyed the process - oh no! Thanks Gary.

Good rescue Scott! I need to figure out the problem with the thin neg then we can try it again.

Thin neg? I'd guess underexposure. If you're at about 1:1 magnification there, you need two stops for bellows factor, and then you need to figure reciprocity for J&C 400. So if you rate J&C 400 at EI 250 or so in Pyrocat and it's kind of overcast or open shade, I'd guess your base exposure would be around 2 sec at f:64, and that's 8 sec with bellows factor, and another 1.5-2 stops for reciprocity, so that would put your exposure around 30 sec.

I think you're right, forgot the bellows factor. Metered for a 2 sec. exposure, gave it eight.

Yup. I think David nailed it on the bellows. We were good with the 8 sec for reciprocity, just not one add'l stop. Live and learn.
