A very beautiful image. What is the Schneider 150 convertible lens like? Is it a Symmar, if so how do you like the coverage and did you use it in the convertible configuration? I have a 5X7 and think it is about the most perfect format. Is this a contact print or enlarged?
Thanks for the comments. This vine has been one of my favourite subjects for a few months now! I posted a shot of one of the buds here as well.
Curt, I love the schneider, yes it is the convertible symmar, which goes to 265. It is totally respectable at 265 but quite dark of course. I shot this at 150 on 5x7 hp5+. By the way the coverage with this lens is fine for 5x7.
This is a neg scan, cropped to 6:8 ratio- haven't had time to do the contact print yet. When I shot it I had in mind to crop it to a square but then when I saw the bud at top right I obviously wanted to keep it and that forced this ratio.
Wow! A really nice image. Burn down the stem above. Not the one to the left but the one thats almost gone. When you print this. What size do you see it? I see it same size as the neg maybe 8x10.
This print really sings! well done.
Thanks Robert, for your comments and the suggestion. The stem you refer to, I guess you mean the one directly above the flower. I thought that was a bit distracting as well, but on the other hand the blossom is part of a vine so there are many stems all over, almost subliminal in the background.
As for the size, this was taken roughly 1:1 (a tad larger), and I'd planned to stay true to that in the print. The main issue for me with enlarging this is that the sharpness of the central stamen is a tiny bit lacking; even though I stopped down as far as I could, I really had to let that go to keep the textured portions sharp. The blossom is quite 3D, a bit like a lily. That's what makes me think this will work best at roughly the size you see. But we'll see...
