14x17 Portrait #1

John is part of the local Tonopah Nevada color. He loves Buicks and beer. One or the other will finish him off. Here he sits in front of his '41 Special with the biggest camera he's ever seen staring at him. He must have moved 1/2" after I focused as the eyes are just a little softer than I planned.

If there were ever a guy who looked like he was from Tonapah, this is the guy.

I agree...and I've never even been there! Also, I could never understand people who loved Buicks, but I suppose that fact that he loves beer makes him ok.

My money is on the beer...

Nice portrait, Jim.

Jim, Were you using the rear half of a 14 1/2" verito here? Or does your Wisner have a larger front standard that allows you to use larger lens boards that will let you use an 18" verito? Or is this a shot with a 14 1/2" that covers at portrait distances? Just curious because I have a Wisner 8x20 and the thing I find limiting is the 5 1/4" Wisner boards that won't allow you to use the larger portrait lenses.

Robert, dead on about the *&%^%$%^ teensy Wiz lens panels. I used the rear of an 11" Verito. About 30" bellows as I recall.

Jim, You can squeeze a 14 1/2" on there but you'll have to mill the mounting flange's high spots down in order to mount it. But I shoot with the rear half of mine all the time. It is pretty amazing that there is hardly any lose of image quality in doing it this way. (especially in a contact print) There is just something about a Verito that I haven't found in any other lens. The rear half of a 14 1/2 incher F4 is 24" at F 6.8 or close to 6.8. Why Ron stayed with the 5 1/4" boards on his ULF cameras is beyond me.

Somebody needs to introduce Ron to a 19" Sigmar f4.

I wish you could have that 1/2 inch back, but it still is very nice. Keep em coming!
