Optimist II

Strange. Having made the print it seems almost sepia toned compared to the negative scan. I have noticed this in other prints but not as strongly as this one. Paper used was Ilford MGIVRC DeLuxe Pearl 6.5" x 8.5". Developer was Ilford Multigrade diluted at 1+9, fixer was Ilford Rapid Fix diluted at 1+4. Print was rinsed under running water for five minutes. Any suggestions as to reasons behind the tone of the print would be useful. Thanks folks!

Ps. This is just a working print, hence the diagonal on the top left corner. If I get time I'll have another go at it tonight.

Only thing that occurs is that I seem to recall reading that old developer, reaching exhaustion can give a warm tone effect (bromide buildup in the developer?).

Surely a boat that size would have a bilge pump (or at least, another bucket :wink: )? Ho hum....

That could be the answer thanks Bob. The dev used was made two weeks ago.

From the panicked shouting going on to helpers in small launches and on the beach, I got the impression the engine was flooded, so no bilge pumps. There are more shots of the incident here.

Kind of funny that I just caught the end of the movie "The Perfect Storm" the other night on the telly.
 
Andy, it's certainly more sepia than the same shot on the other site. I presume the other was a neg scan. I like the look personally. The water 's look gives it a real presence as if it's about to wash over the bottom margin.

The others are a nice set in a photo essay
