Lonely Croft Scotland

Lonely Croft Scotland

This was taken some 20 mile south of Ullapool, and we have just entered the area known as Western Ross. There are a number of abandoned crofts not all dataing back to the forced land clearance of the 17th to 19th centuarys. I just wonder how any one made a living in these areas

Hi. Just got back from a visit to Aberdeenshire and drove through the Cairngorms on the way back to Edinburgh. You can see the remains of small stone buildings dotting a similar landscape. I also thought to myself that it must have been a pretty hardscrabble existence. Ironically, you can go around a turn and come upon a magnificent castle- a striking disparity.

I'm enjoying your photographs of areas I didn't get a chance to see on an all too brief visit.

All the best,
Daniel
