two questions: Is Argust 6th a typo or does it have another meaning? Also, is this commissioned by a local historical commission or society ...or owner, or is it an interest of yours? I like the idea of making a poster for said commission...lets say 24x36, with a drawing (cad) of the floorplan or some framing detail and b&w photo as an overlay. This would be maybe for display for some regulatory board or other local group. Love those old PA farms buildings!
No, it's not a typo (maybe a weirdo!) -- see the "Sunday is Argust 6th" thread in the Antiques and Collecting Forum. It is an event promoted by the Argus Collector Group. (http://arguscg.tripod.com/) I was blissfully ignorant of such a group until last week. I ignored the thread for a while, but finally succumbed and dug out my Argus C-3, as the title appealed to my warped sense of humor.
This barn is part of an old farm, one of the first in the township where I live. It is also only about a mile from my house and has always appealed to me as a photo test site. Lots of variety of light and texture. I have also painted watercolors of the outdoor bake oven there, as well as this barn.
So no, not a commission, just a combination of opportunity and personal interest. Your idea is an interesting concept, thanks.
I SO like this image! I have an innate afffinity for patterns and this photo has several.
Looking at it produces a kind of Zen moment for me. The exposure appears to be perfect or did some dodging/burning occur in the darkroom? (Or does scanned negative mean there is no darkroom work? Obviously I'm not a pro. Just someone who loves viewing and taking photographs!)
Thank you, glad you like it. Yes, a scanned negative means no darkroom work as far as wet chemicals, etc. One can accomplish similar results with photo editing programs, however. In this case, no dodging or burning has been done. For whatever reason, scanning these negatives seemed far more tedious than my previous scans of 6x6 cm and 4x5 inch formats. Some overall scan optimization is necessary, but I see that as no different than choosing paper grades and exposures. The negative looks to my eye as though I should be able to get an equally good analog print out of it. I hope to be able to find out within another month or two. More scans from the "Argust 6th" C3 roll, and the same farmstead seen with my Bronica SQ-A, may be seen working down from http://www.pbase.com/dw_thomas/oldies
