Their full length bodies might have added to what you are conveying. I hope that all the rioters were English or Greek so they could understand these were the police from the writing on the shields. Actually when I think about it, even the Martians among the rioters would recognise the police. B&W removes any likelihood that these men could be mistaken for anything other than a "force" to be reckoned with.
