Its last iteration was as a nursery. But the size of the main building suggests its original purpose may have been something else. A lot of the land around here was farmed in the early part of the 20th century, so maybe it housed some big agricultural machinery or a workshop of some kind...?
The letters on the chimney are "P" and "N", neither of which suggests "Mapleton". Technically it's part of publicly-owned parkland, but it's fenced off and nothing is being done to preserve it. To my eye it looks like it'll fall down soon.
Edit: a quick search revealed the meaning of the letters, but no real history of the building. The original business was called "Princeton Nurseries", hence the P and N. Supposedly the lagest commerical nursery in the state, occupying 50-odd acres of land. Sad to see sites like this being neglected, but I imagine it would take a bundle of money to restore the place.
