The website below shows a photo of a very similar sign located in Superior, Arizona (dated 1999), but it is not identical. Where yours says "HBO / MAX" the other photo shows "VACANCY." Because the silver pipes which support the signs are so similar, I am pretty sure it is the same sign.

The website mentions, "Unfortunately it appears that the El Portal Motel is now gone. 06-23"

runswithsizzers, That's definitely it, as I have a wider shot to confirm it, thanks. I did do some searching and came up with a few images but nothing that stated the location. It makes sense as that it's a scenic route I took once when visiting my parents. Too bad the motel is gone.

I've been taking photos since 1970. I wonder what percentage of them show subjects which are now gone? Entropy always wins.
