Sonatas XII-61 (Industry)

Old turbines from the power house that used to be on Mill Place, on the Rock River, in Mayville, Wisconsin. The afternoon sun makes the legs almost glow, while the whole piece reminds me of a squat spider in wait. Photo taken September 2015. Print made April 2016, 8” x 10”.

Words by Khaetidawne and Brendan Quirk

These old turbines seem to evoke modern artworks
They remind some of how steel brought jobs and perks.
Others see a spider, with legs that glow, ready to pounce
A mighty heavy spider, weighed in pounds, not by ounce.
