Sonatas XII-21 (Main Street)

Newberg's Grand Central Hotel in Theresa, Wisconsin, built in 1860. This façade punches above its weight – a very interesting look for such a modest building. Photo taken August 2019. Print made March 2022, 8” x 10”.

Sonatas XII-21 (Main Street)

Words by Khaetidawne and Brendan Quirk

Built in 1860, “Newberg’s Grand Central Hotel” -
you can still see “NEW” on the bricks if you look well.
It must have served travelers on their way to Green Bay
A hotel, tavern, restaurant, then “Hot Spot” in its day.

The tall square front was a classic architectural feature of millions of commercial buildings in American towns. But this front in your photo is a biggie, for sure. The 2nd floor windows would have once included a curved upper sash. Pity they are gone.

Just saw "Blast from The Past" again yesterday. The progression from "Newberg's Grand Central Hotel" to "The Theresa Hot Spot" reminds me of the degeneration of the malt shop in the movie down to a dive bar. (Apologizes to those who haven't seen the movie.)
