If so, you should delete it ASAP. APUG is not the place for photoshopped images.

It is quite easy to convert colour to BW without using Photoshop. And in any case a lot of apug members use PS to make corrections in. In my case as I don't have a darkroom, I asked a friend to make me some BW prints and I just scanned the print into my computer. Simple. the only alterations that I made were in levels and image size prior to sending them over the net. My usual 35mm film is Kodak Portra BW400 which is a C41 film. But on that particular day I had run out of that film and had to resort to Fujicolour, which I bought at the local supermarket. Now if you have a problem with that. Then that's your problem not mine. If it would help you sleep better at night then I might delete. But I can assure that it was an honest attempt to upload an image that was in the best interest of photography, and I made no attempt to disguise the fact that it was a colour neg converted to BW!
Always remember: 'that rules are to be obeyed by fools and for the guidance of wise men'
Best wishes

Hi Julian, on the upload page it specifically states right next to the upload button:

Select the photos you wish to upload from your computer. PLEASE refrain from posting images that have been manipulated digitally such as converting color images to black and white.

The community as a whole has agreed long ago that we do not want this to become a regular occurance in the galleries so have drawn the line. A color neg printed on black & white paper and that scanned into the gallery is fine but converting a color neg to b&w using photoshop is against the gallery rules for good reason.

Sean, I did not convert a colour neg digitally into a BW in PS as stated in my post, but scanned a black & white print that was obtained in a traditional darkroom. That being said and if it upsets some people then I'm sorry. But it was and never will be my desire to offend the integrity of the commitee of APUG, or for that matter any member.
Hope this clears up any misunderstanding, and that this will be the end of the matter.
Warm regards
Julian

Sorry Julian I misunderstood. I took "This is Fujicolour colour neg film converted to BW." as meaning converted in photoshop. Apologies.

Sean

Ok, now that that's out of the way:smile: this is a cool look. Blues gone to black. Do you know how your friend filtered this when he printed it?

I have converted color to black and white in my own darkroom but haven't had much success, usually needs a #5 filter. Nice shot.

Many thanks, Gay and Jason for your comments. I have'nt a clue what my friend does to obtain BW prints from colour negs. Phil, is a profesional printer by trade and does this colour neg to bw prints all the time, mainly for wedding photographers whose clients would like a set of BW prints as well as the usual colour prints. I know when he first started doing this colour to BW he had a few problems, but through trial and error he has created his own technique to overcome them. What that formula is? who knows. But what he does stress is that colour negative film is exposed correctly and maybe up to a stop overexposed, but no more, and definately never underexpose.
Hope this helps.
Warm regards
Julian

Aha, that makes more sense, you should have made it a little clearer in the image describtion, to avoid confusion.... Great shot, I bet the print looks good.
