Okay, here's the brief version of the story.
Dave, (photo friend, Brooks grad & Master Photo-Craftsman) and I were driving along the highway in the opposite direction of this shot. As I recollect, Dave saw the potential in his side rear-view mirror and we got us to a place to turn and headed back to capture this scene.
I'm glad I got to see this one in the "newest gallery image" section of the English Forums page, otherwise I would have missed it! Why not show your stuff in the Standard Gallery where more people can enjoy them? (You don't have to answer that if you don't want to).
That really is a beauty! I'm typically unimpressed by mountain scenes, but this one caught my eye in the tiny "latest photo" spot, and I really love it. That mountain has the coolest name as well! Wish I could see the print.
You don't remember the film you used? Is that a town at the bottom edge of the image? Is that a snag tree in the center of the bottom? Could we see the picture of the bottom part of the image cut off?
It's a beautiful shot, Ansel Adams one said that plain skys are boring and storms and clouds, ok storms, are what make sthe drama of the scene come alive.
Thank you all - Ari-ga-to:
The clouds are what really accentuate this image IMHO.
Curt: I don't have the negative here with me but think it was probably TMax-100.
In the bottom left is the highway with tiny cars just inside the image. I cropped a lot of the road and some foreground trees out.
I don't have PhotoShop, just film exposure...developement...and print...(scan).
Hope this answers your questions, if any others, please don't hesitate to let me know.
