Photo of Pied Billed Grebe, the only Grebe in North America without a hooked bill. These small diving birds may only be about 12" tall. Image taken in Golden Hour approaching or in sunset light. Sun and the Grebe were in the optimum position for the reflection as the bird kept swimming back and forth in the water. Thanks to Leica Camera, USA for the loan of the Leica f5.6 800mm Modular Apo Telyt lens.
Thanks for the kind words. I was working in the warm late afternoon light with the big 800mm lens balanced on my Arca B1 Ball mounted on my Gitzo 320 tripod. I kept following the bird in the beautiful light as the Grebe kept swimming in different directions. As the bird swam and changed position and pose I kept photographing. This is the outcome. Again, I would like to thank Leica Camera, USA for the loan of the f5.6 800mm Modular Apo Telyt lens. Rich
I think this is a great example of what can be done with a mirror lens. The lens gets bad ink from a lot of folks, but it can deliver a wonderful image as seen here!
Thanks for the compliment, but this is not a mirror lens! This is Leicas' Modular System. It consists of 3 heads and 2 focusing units. It is a mix and match system, the only one in the world. When I borrowed this from Leica, the discounted selling price of the f5.6 800mm Modular Apo Telyt was around $16,000! Rich
