Well for what it's worth, I would leave the composition as is. You took the image as a 35mm 3:2 ratio and if you crop it you are destroying the integrity of the image. If you think it should be a square image, then sell your N80 and buy a square format camera.
If you view the composition as a thumbnail it holds good. A square crop would not work (in my opinion).

I have no problem cropping anything that could do with one. Camera aspect ratio has no integrity, it's just a camera.
Having said that it works fine as is. The young man is in the right spot and all the shadows, highlights and lines work well.

I think it works either way. Just cutting off the left side to make the square still leaves the image of the boy near one of those "golden coordinates" and not dead center -- and then everybody is happy! It's your picture, you call the shots.
