Interesting, this seems to depend on the dotted road marking. Partly as a compositional balance to the kerb, and partly as a possibly 'path' for the figure.

The guiding dotted line in contrast to the confining diagonal "pressing on" his head was what caught my attention; and really, what brought all of this on to begin with was the fallen bag.

The composition is made by the dotted road marking, which also reflects the shapes of the tiles in the cycle lane. A simple, but effective composition.
