5x12 is the baby banquet format. There are vintage examples of it, but most of the 5x12's I know are modern. Same proportions as 7x17 and 8x20, but a whole lot less bulk and a whole lot less cost

Is film this size readily available, or do you have to cut down from something larger or use the Ilford annual sale?

I get it from the Ilford annual sale. Right now I'm running through old stock I had from several years ago when it was much more affordable per box. I'm going to order a 50 ft roll of 5" film this year and cut it down that way. If you don't do that, or buy the pre-cut 5x12 in the annual order, then it's cut down 11x14 film, which is a lot more complicated and prone to scratching (multiple cuts).
