Expansiveness is a very apt word to describe this. Interestingly it gives me more of a feeling of the vast open ocean than a pictures of the ocean with no land in it!

Expansiveness exists by contrast to non-expansiveness. The boat on the horizon helps, too.

Thanks for your comments. I believe the boat on the horizon is an important element in the feeling I was attempting to convey when I pressed the shutter.
