Very impressive as is the other shot at Abu Simbel . That has got to be one of the "blackest" if not the blackest sky I have ever seen with a normal film and only an orange filter. I suppose that when there is a very clear deep blue sky at those latitudes then an orange filter has an amazing effect. I wonder how a blue car taken in Luxor at the same time would have looked with an orange filter?
The dark sky surprised me as well. But the temple is made of a beige stone and the mid-afternoon light was very bright. So it's a high contrast scene and while printing I focussed on the tones of the statue. Not sure about the blue car, I never photograph blue cars.
Edit: maybe I used a polarizer and not an orange filter.
Nice images! I was in Egypt in February and had a great time. Now I just need to print everything! I'm also interested in seeing how my skies turn out - I think I always had either a yellow or red filter on, so we'll see.
Thanks, spijker. I was once on a Nile cruise in late November which went to Luxor and then to Aswan. Even that late in the year the sky was an amazing deep blue but all my pictures were on colour film so deep blue remained deep blue
