Mosque Prayers

The latest image (about an hour or two ago, actually) from my personal project on ritual, in various communities. Last month it was the Sikh community, the month before that Ukrainian Catholic, now it's our Islamic neighbours.

@Ken Bingham Yes, I just started this after mulling over the idea for a year or two. It's been really positive so far, but I have no set plan or anything for it...just that it feels right. Is any of your work online on that theme?

You might find one of the m4/3rd's cameras with their silent shutters to be useful. The thunder clap of a 5D could be disturbing to some while praying.

Great image BTW.

@Eric Rose Actually pretty quiet, I put mine on Silent/Quiet mode as standard practice. It was pretty unobtrusive today and other times I've worked on this project with them.
Much of it is knowing when it's appropriate to shoot, but honestly in its quieter mode for its shutter the cameras are quite good.

@Colin Corneau Well, not really; that is, I can't say my work reflects the idea of ritual, not directly, anyway. I just retired from teaching English composition, British Literature, and Humanities at the College of Southern Idaho here in Twin Falls. When I taught Humanities, we touched on the idea of ritual and its beginnings. I have a favorite definition I liked to tell students: "ritual consists of ordinary actions made special." That should get them thinking, or so I thought . . .

@Andrew O'Neill Funny you mention that, a Ukrainian Orthodox cathedral was the first place I went to on embarking on this project!

@Ken Bingham I REALLY like that quote -- "ordinary actions made special"...brilliant.

Well, don't attribute it to me. I read it somewhere several years ago and now I don't remember where. Maybe in the work of Ronald Grimes? I'll try to track it down and let you know.
