@jimjm yes Eucalyptus. Imo they’re more dangerous for how easy they burn when the weather is dry.

We don’t visit SD as often as when we lived in CA. My in-laws live in Scripps Ranch...this was from Feb 2018. Just cleared out a big backlog of undeveloped film.

Where have the greens come from? A scanning artefact, I presume? I am a little curious why no-one else has mentioned this. Can't just be on my screen can it? It does provide a very nice effect. When I ask these questions it is always in the hope, usually dashed in the answer, that there is a simple way of doing this in analogue. I live in hopes :D

Thanks

@pentaxuser Do not lose hope! This is not a scanning artifact. It came from developing the Tri-X in 1:1 DX-50 (and maybe not a function of the developer but maybe it is). The rolls came out with a pink tint which, when reversed, imparts a green cast.

... I typed Microdol initially but this was actually developed in DX-50. Going to fix that now.

Thanks for the reply. Alas,my problem remains. The rolls may be pink and in a scanning reversal become green a la colour negs on RA4 paper but printing on B&W silver gelatin paper in a darkroom I cannot see of any way to get this colour. There might be a way on RA4 but if you largely neutralise the dichroic head Y and M filter combo to give B&W on RA4 paper.

Handcolouring as Eddie does very well would work but would (a) not be a quick or easy process (b) require more skill than I possess and (b) would lose the subtlety of what you have here, I suspect.

Nevertheless it is an interesting effect of DX 50 and one which I hadn't heard of .

Sounds like you're looking for a toning solution, but TBH I'm not sure what you could use to provide a green tone. Perhaps a pair of toning solutions?

I've managed a greenish effect using Ilford warmtone, a partial bleach followed by sepia toning and then selenium. Actually, just a partial bleach/sepia can fool the brain with pictures of foliage. You know there is a colour present, but it is interpreted as green.

I like the look of Eucalyptus, but I would rather they had never been introduced to California.

Maybe worthwhile experimenting with RA4 paper and various filtration settings? Apart from the green, there may be other interesting color effects achievable.
