I usually don't use solid colour filters as I prefer graduated. On this shot I used either an orange or red solid filter and it made the lower half way to contrasty. On the plus side I was looking for a gritty, hard look as that's the kind of country it is.
The contrast is what I like here, I guess it is a very relative thing, contrast.
The sky vs the road and grass gives it an almost 3 dimensional look.
If you ever want to sell a copy I will be there.
All the best
Gaston
People can say what they like about "artificial skies" as a result of filters but when it is half the picture it really adds to the impact. In the thumbnail it was the sky that drew me to open the picture
I'm not sure what's so artificial about the sky. To me, it looks like a normal sky with a wratten deep red (25?) filter. What may be artificial is the elimination of the blue light wavelengths in exposing the film. Eric? Was it a deep-red filter?
E!
I love the juxtaposition between the wild bush and orderly man made building, that road makes it like a surreal math equation !
thanks for posting

I think square format is wrong format for lots of enviro photos (see Media examples), tho great for portraits etc. Too much sky, too much foreground. The sky is just another exaggerated sky (like HDR)... I'd be drawn to the grain elevator but for that tree/bush. I would like to see more of the hills in the background. To each his/her own.
