I like the intensity of his eyes. Not sure that a good (4X5) internegative would save the faint detail in his hat band but it might save some of the other deep shadow detail.
 
Both good points. My bad on the 'needle' - that's some lint or something from the slide processing...I found in the final days the K64 processing was atrocious. Lots of dust and specks. I should have removed that in Photoshop.

jtk your point is well taken -- I used a humble flatbed scanner and while it's generally pretty good for larger B&W negatives, it's underwhelming for slides. There's so much detail and sharpness missing.
