Spectacular. What adjustments did you need to the exposure settings to turn the background almost solid black. It's a technique that I'd like to try to adopt as well when the occasions calls for it, as it does here

Thanks

Hello there, this was at around 10-11am, the inside of the restaurant was very dim, and there were these slivers of light that land on the statue (pretty intentional on their part). Metering on the inside gave me, iirc, f2 at 1/250. Outside it was very bright so I used sunny 16 for this since there was sunlight on the statue.

Thanks. So the statue was inside the restaurant which was dimly lit but the rays of the sun were on the statue. It sounds like this caused you to use sunny f16 for the statue so for a exposure of the statue this would have been 1/400th at f16 or maybe slightly more such as say 1/250th. I am a little confused at to what part the f2 at 1/250th inside the restaurant played in the exposure?

However I may have misunderstood what you said. Could you clarify

Thanks

I meter the inside too, it gave me the f2 reading. I could have shot it like that but I wanted just whatever the sunlight is illuminating to be properly exposed and the rest to be dark. So I used the setting for sunny 16 outside instead of what the meter read inside the restaurant. Sorry for the confusion English is not my first languag.

Thanks That is what I thought you probably meant but I wanted to be sure. Thinking about it, the meter reading inside was useful in that it gave confirmation that the inside's correct exposure at f2 and 250th was about 7 stops less which confirmed that f16 at about 1/250th would render all else except the statue at zone 1-2 which is almost featureless black. A useful check
