Limburg (an der Lahn) #2

The same as number 1 from a slightly different angle and without the statue. I wonder which one members prefer?

Nice.

I would always prefer the image where the subject fills more of the frame - like the one with the statue in the foreground. The building in the background of #2 fills only as few percent of the frame and becomes lost in the masses of green and blue.

Yes I see your point. However, although the cathedral is the subject the setting is also important and it would be a shame to miss the trees (and their reflections in the river) by having a much tighter crop on the cathedral.

OK. Unfortunately, I can't try again. I'll probably never go back to Limburg. It was just an overnight stop on a very long drive. I hate using digital but it was all I had and after all it is only a mobile phone snap. I must admit I like the subject in the centre and I also like the fact that I will remember the setting of the cathedral on the river Lahn from this photo. So I suppose it is what another APUG member calls a "recording" photograph rather than an interesting picture! I quite like the other photograph with the statue (especially the light on the statue) but I can't help thinking it is an annoying distraction from the extreme calm of the dusk.

I think that this is better than #1 because there is less competition 'for grandeur' within the image . - David Lyga

Thank you David. I too prefer this one but I am biased because I was actually standing on the bridge at dusk and so the photo means something to me (especially as I had had a drive that should have taken about 3.5/4 hours that took 8!).

I like the fact that it is surrounded by vegetation and you can't see the rest of it. It gives a sense of lost in time. Unfortunately many buildings like this are encroached by contemporary architecture and have lost this look. You would have enjoyed having more time in Limburg - until they give you their famous cheese !
