re: rosacea shooting DSLR I had a terrible time dealing with that on an ethic Chinese man's portrait... I wonder if Nik or Photoshop could have addressed that with a color adjustment, or if (shooting film) I could have dealt with it using a blue or green filter (? !)

@jtk In photoshop, clone in "lighten" mode from a clear skin area. A few brush strokes at 7-12% opacity. To minimize blemishes in camera with black and white film, use anything but a blue filter, and I don't think a green will help. Blue will selectively darken red blemishes, making the blemishes look even more apparent. Light yellow may help, but also tends to lighten the lips, which may be undesirable.

OOPS. You can see how ignorant I am about filters. I did approximately what you suggested with PS, wasn't easy due to patterns and size.

How did you avoid/deal-with glasses reflections? Might have been tricky, given your lighting...

Now that I mention it, how DID you light? Surprisingly soft, simple round catch-light...

@jtk glasses are a problem when the head is turned towards the light, but not the case here. I used a softbox about 40x60cm with compact fluorescent lights to my left, a large piece of white foamcore to the right of the crown graphic, and a small LED panel behind me on the background.

How did you get your eyes so nicely in focus?

@tnp651 I focused on the lens board, then I tried to keep my eyes in the same plane. I shot this at, I think, f16. In the original size, the eyes are a tiny bit out of focus.
