I noticed nearly 9 hours later that I had originally failed to type the word "hide" after "can". I will have to stop drinking half a bottle of whisky for elevenses Interesting that comments can be edited that many hours after the event
It's scan of a negative and perhaps this is the limitation of my equipment, my eyesight, my skill at focussing quickly or the dog moved or all of those factors. Animals do not pose conveniently and the dog was panting heavily. I actually took 3 shots and he moved every time. The other picture of the dog you refer to is a monochrome print so it is not a negative scanning issue per se but perhaps a scanning issue or compression to low resolution jpeg is part of it nonetheless. I don't have any autofocus cameras so focus relies on my eyesight which is not particularly good as I am rather astigmatic but that monochrome print looks sharp to me looking at it in my hand.
It is sometimes possibly to get a "posed" photograph if the dog is asleep!
