It was a truly gorgeous walk. It is a protected area (an area of special scientific interest, SSSI). It has been farmed since at least the Neolithic age. There are rare orchids to be seen in Summer if you know where, glow-worms on warm Summer nights. Skylarks hover and sing on the wing there. Tobanning in the snow in Winter. Ancient woodland of great mystery, fungi in Autumn. I have been lucky enough to have the place almost on my doorstep since childhood. Generations of my dogs have run for miles and played there happy as a dog can ever be. I get quite dewy-eyed about the place. Think “The Lark Ascending” by Vaughan Williams.
I was out with the dog yesterday. Many trees are now almost leafless so the great Autumn blaze is nearly done. The dog loves the leaves to run through though!
