Runners, Royal Parks Half-Marathon

At the 12 mile mark. Two friends of mine running to raise money for KIng's College liver unit. The dog not cropped out because he is an important spectator. This photo took some preparation. I had to guess where the runners would appear and focus there in anticipation.

It's an eye-catching scene. It looks as if the foremost runner has caught the dog's attention by pointing to the design on his tee-shirt and inviting it to look while the runner in the Superman outfit is using his finger to question the dog's good sense in bothering to look. The woman and the man in the black tee-shirt appear to have seen something interesting off camera that no-one else has spotted.

A photo makes you realise that what appears to be one stream of humanity engaged in a common goal, namely running, is in fact individuals who while running in close proximity to one another are each in their own space. It might be improved if the nearest runner was in sharper focus as he is a focal point from which you then take in the others around him.

Yes there was a lot going on. The nearest runner was in the way from my point of view but unavoidable. The 2 runners of interest to me are Tim, with his tongue out and his brother who is to his right and smiling. Unfortunately, having waited for 20 minutes with a good clear view of the runners, an old git who had been standing behind me the whole time decided it was time to move in front of me and completely block my view. We exchanged "words"! A motor wind would have been handy for a burst of shots but I only got one shot. I do have a motor wind but I cannot use my ever-ready camera case with the motor wind fitted so I don't use it.

Thanks, Svenedin. Yes there are times when the built-in 8 frames a second of the Nikon F5 can come in handy. :D

Yes, that would be very handy! The great thing about OM SLR's is that they are small but that comes at the expense of having to bolt on a winder or motor wind.
