The washout of the background is too profound to not mention. It lessens the effectiveness of what you wish to impart. THAT, along with a paucity of detail in the (underexposed?) foreground causes much distress for David Lyga. The composition is fine, but just what are you 'composing'?

What a great tree, very dramatic, good spotting, good choice of filter.
Burn (not literally) the high lights on the tree a stop or so, crop the fore ground closer to the base of the trunk and crop the left side so the tree is off center and the curve of the branch accentuates the clearing beyond. Gives you somewhere for the eye to wander to.....anyway its just my opinion.
