Big contrast range, not entirely controllable by ND grads, so I pulled out the QL Fuji Pro160S to see how it fared. I like the results and shall be using more in similar situations.
Also shot this on Acros with an Orange filter, but haven't processed film yet.
I like the colour contrast between sand and the brightly coloured beach huts, and the way the blocks of colour are placed in the composition with the darker blue at the edges to hold the eye in the picture, the more I look at it the more I think what an interesting colour composition this is. The Fuji Pro 160S( which is my favorite neg film) has handled the subject contrast retaining both highlight and shadow detail. Very well done Baxter.
Interesting color. When I looked at the thumbnail, I thought it might be a hand-colored B&W shot. I like it.
The rear tilt does strange things to the perspective of the beach huts. On the one hand, you could use front tilt and keep the lines straight (as straight as they are at least), losing the exaggerated near/far effect, or you might use even more rear tilt and add some swing to skew the whimsically colored huts even more. I think I like the idea of making them look even crazier than they are.
I can see what you are saying about the perspective David, although the camera back was vertical according to the spirit level, I had angled the camera downwards and then tilted backwards, so am a bit puzzled as to why this distortion has occurred. the huts, charming as they may be, are not precision orthoganal objects, but nevertheless the RH ones are pretty wonky. Whereas the one in top Left appears fine....
The frost on the roof of the white hut is a bit of a clue that this was out of season.
