Techpan Riverbank

Trying to get the hang of Tech Pan without using up all my stash. Pretty harsh light and not the best time of day. I used a red filter and I'm thinking that was too much

Best to do clip tests, using only a frame or two, or in this case, I would have cut the sheet and placed a tiny bit into a 35mm SLR and exposed only one frame, rather than blowing whole sheets or rolls. Amazing how many think that a whole roll MUST be used for any 'test'. Tech Pan has the speed of Pan F+ but requires considerably less development time. A decided advantage is that if development is curtailed, highlights rarely blow-out. Its tonality is superb and its grain practically nonexistent.

The picture above is rather satisfying and 'correct' as far a tonality goes. Using 4X5 and Tech Pan gives you the opportunity to enlarge to catastrophic heights! I don't think that you are capable of enlarging this to an extent whereby you reach any limit, Larry.

The only thing I would have done to improve this would have been to darken the top a bit. - David Lyga

'Dang helpful, David. Thank you.

Thanks David! The print itself doesn't have the bright flare across the top like the reduced res digital image I'll see if I can upload a better image and put up a link. I "think" I've got basic development of tech pan with TD3 down mostly of the 6 sheets I've shot only the first resulted in something I couldn't print. But I've still got a lot to learn on the exposure side.
