Just rescanned some slides taken at the Grand Canyon in 1983. With "Kodachrome" by Paul Simon in the background. Pretty much a straight scan, just adjusting brightness and contrast..

I'm pretty sure that, in the light taken, they were. I was 33 years ago, so I can't be positive. But I did not adjust any color during or after the scan.
