Sierra Snag

Sierra Snag

Flatbed scan of 8 x 10 sulfide / selenium toned silver print.... A dead tree on the trail between Middle and Upper Sunrise Lakes, Yosemite. I finally got around to toning this print from 2003, thought it was somewhat interesting, print up to 11 x 14?

Nice, Victor. Reminiscent of an Adams picture of a bristlecone pine. Is there room on the negative to give the tree more breathing room? Some subtle burning should help to balance the tones in the sky.

All the best,
Daniel

Hey Daniel, thanks for the thoughts. I initially had the enlarger lowered enough to get the entire tree in the easel, but decided against it because at the time I thought it looked kind of pedestrian and also thinking that this tree, probably struck by lightning took on a lightning look by extending the branches to the edges.. - judgment call. I did burn in the left side to make that side of the sky darker so that it was not so 'flat' looking. I know it's not one of my best, hence the years I waited before even toning the print.. just something to share. The scan grabbed the tone of the print perfectly.
