My hiking friend. Taken outside a countryside inn after climbing the Stuiben falls. I do like the look of this film but it can be picky about exposure and has a very different tonal range to Delta 400 or TMax 400.
Yes, it look very contrasty with very dark shadows and perhaps overly bright highlights such as the gentleman's brow. I have no idea if a lower grade might have helped but it is helpful to see the effect of the neg on a print.
I had considered this film and I am an Xtol user so your dev time is helpful but the high contrast make me wonder about its use. It might suit very flat light scenes and there are plenty of them in the U.K>
@pentaxuser Yes it does tend to be high contrast and I believe it is actually the same emulsion as Rollei IR 400 (which is very high contrast). This was a high contrast scene to start with. Yes, I may see how it prints at a softer grade, this is grade 2. I also have some townscapes taken in Innsbruck but not yet printed. The negatives look like they may be challenging, again high contrast but very sharp. I suppose we should not be surprised by any of this. The film is after all aviation film and for that purpose the film has the right characteristics (sharp, fast, high contrast, extended red sensitivity). I like using it because it is so different to the usual emulsions. It has a distinctive character.
