The tonality is really great in this photo. And I like the composition. TFC what flatbed do you use? I see a grey stripe on the right side. I am using a V750 and have the same issue.
@RudyMerz I too am using an Epson V750. I don't know if it has anything to do with my film holders or not - I'm using the Betterscanning holders because they do keep the film flatter when used with the anti-newton glass inserts, but it's still not perfect. I suspect it has to do with the slight curl to the film. I'm sure switching to an Imacon would solve the problem but that's one heck of a solution.
@TheFlyingCamera I've got the Betterscanning/Newton glass as well. What I've read is that the black frame on the right, when you use the right side of the holder, reflects back to the negative when there is a bright sky. AFAIK there are several solutions. 1. Cover the right side of the negative with a small black cardboard strip. 2. Turn the negative, I tape my negatives to the glass carrier with 'Lineco Self Adhesive Linen Hinging Tape' so I have to just turn the carrier, so that the bright side is on the left side/inside of the holder. 3. Push your glass carrier as much as possible to the right. I know, those solutions cover the black frame from the negative, I don't like it either. And it does not work with all photographs. There is much written on the net about it. As it looks there are other flatbeds which have the same problem. Seams to be a drawback of the flatbeds. But they are so convenient and a dedicated medium format scanner is way out of my league.
@RudyMerz No doubt about the cost of a dedicated medium format scanner. One of these days, if I'm either making enough money from my photography or I get a really nice big fat tax refund, I might buy an Imacon. Until then, I'll have to investigate other solutions. Maybe there's a way to paint the BetterScanning holders with a matte finish paint that wouldn't reflect, or else bevel the edge with a Dremel so it doesn't reflect up into the negative.
