this looks like a "lady slippe" as they call them in the new england area. a very very old orchid. they say, where you find them, they have been growing for hundreds of thousands of years. i used to find them in the woods near where i grew up. i haven't seen them in a long time.

Thanks for all comments. I was fortunate to find these flowers growing in the woods on my property shortly after taking possession. Interestingly, two previous owners had no idea that these flowers were there-apparently they didn't walk the woods at the time of blooming (late June through early July). There is a very similar orchid that is locally referred to as a "Lady Slipper" but looks somewhat different than the Moccasin Flower.
