PyroHD Semi test. Mostly raw scan. HP5 scanned in color, converted to BW. No filtration, contrast or sharpening. With gratitude to Andrew O'Neill for sharing method details. Does this work on FP4 or Tmax100 also? 'Very pleased w/ process results
Interesting. What was the subject brightness range? I'm always looking for ways to handle the extreme SBR where I live and HP5 has never worked well for me.
Yup, 3D - metal, rust, mud...
'Can't say I know or have any smarts about what makes a shot have that appearance. 'Wish I did & could reproduce at will. I would suspect it would be harder w/ the high key, low contrast image. On unusual effects, Andrew's mud flat shot still has me staring like a cow at a new gate.
Very nice. I love the lichen and the reflection on the headlamp. All my scans are "raw" as I don't understand any of the settings (yet) but I scan in 8 bit greyscale. I may try your method.
Hi Svenedin. I'm no expert w/ Lightroom or Photoshop elements, but when I looked at methods for scanning one mentioned better detail using color scan for mono & converting in Lightroom, which is what I do. I use Elements almost exclusively for removing any dust/lint that makes it through the scan.
Well done! HP5 and Pyrocat-HD semi-stand were made for each other. Yes, it will work with FP4, but I'm not sure about Tmax 100. Probably it will because I've done it successfully with TMY.
@hiho. I will try that. I use Elements to remove marks on negatives and for cropping/converting to jpg. I use the scanner software (Epson) to manage the actual scanning. It works fairly well for 35mm but less well for 120 as the holders are badly designed and don't hold the film flat. I still have my enlarger etc but no suitable space for darkroom work at the moment.
I've done hundreds of Pyrocat/TMX negatives using extreme minimal agitation - essentially three agitations rather than two in semi-stand. TMX works fine.
Some excellent detail here on this old vehicle section, HiHo. I like these "cyclops" type captures revealing a single headlight or taillight in the scene. Works as presented here very well, but could also see a crop down from the top to just above the upper fender edge leaving some space there eliminating the bright tailpipe? sticking out in the back. Just a thought not a nit in any way......looks good.
