All Wheel Drive

Detail of drive shaft on a Shay logging locomotive. Arranged on short notice, this past Thursday we met friends from the far end of the state at Strasburg, Pa. Rode the steam powered train and visited the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania where this was taken.

Whoa, baby, where to begin! This has everything i admire in a photograph. Love what you do unexpectedly but always ready!

Yes! The honorable DWT just tears it up when it comes to anything mechanical. This is certainly no exception. Gleam, texture. Detail on the shaft, chain & bevel gear is just candy.

Thanks guys! @michaelorr "unexpectedly but always ready" gives me far too much credit! This was a mostly social event with an old college room mate and our wives, organized about 36 hours ahead. I packed my Yashica 124G and a bunch of film in a recently acquired sling bag -- and actually used it! Shot four rolls and started another, in addition to other shots we shall not discuss here. Rode the Strasburg RR (been there several times over the years) and paid extra for the club car or whatever and were able to sit in cushy swivel seats and sip glasses of Merlot whilst watching Lancaster County farms slide by the window. Assuming the museum permits it, a tripod would have been handy -- and also a polarizer. The museum is tight and the lighting was a bit strange with massive daylight in some spots (maybe I should go on a cloudy day next time!) I will eventually post more in my PBase gallery, but seem to be shooting more pictures than I have time to organize. This one just jumped out at me (there were large windows off to the right flooding in light).

DWT, 'spent about 40 min. looking up trainyards locally, which seem divided in 6 locations. You've set the bar awful high, but it would be a shame to miss such mechanical loveliness.
