Sunflower II

Sunflower II

Same flower, same roll of film. Interesting, I saw the aphids on the flower until I printed this copy.
Well this take gives a little more personality to the flower. Great view, hard to choose, but if only one could be viewed it would probably be the I, which fills up more of the image with the featured subject. These are elegant but intricate plants when studied in this much detail and closeness. I wondered about the dark spots in I, straightened that right out in this view.

Having photographed a large variety of plants, I've really enjoyed doing portraits of simple symmetries like these, and bringing out their personalities. Complex shapes like orchids distort easily and are much more difficult to photograph in Black & White. They hold their shape in color, but take a lot of work to look as good in monochrome.

Peter, nice job! Love it! How is it that you lit the subject? Soft light from the right and hard light from above on black background?
