This is an awesome shot! I've never tried a Holga and I'm really enjoying all the Holga shots that lots of APUG members are posting. Makes me want to get a Holga and try it out!
I know what you mean about a new process or approach being a breath of fresh air. I found my photography getting stale from doing the same thing, with the same equipment over and over. I recently took a stereo camera with me on a trip and had a lot of fun with it. Also, my son's 8th grade science class is studying light. We built a couple of pinhole cameras and have had a great time playing with them. We even turned his room into a giant pinhole camera by blacking out the windows. The "break" from my regular photography has ended up revitalizing it. I'm now ready to get on with my more "serious" stuff.
Next time I find myself in a rut, I may have to try a holga. Thanks for the inspiration.
It sounds like we were both in the same situation. I recently started doing pinhole work as well, and purchased a zone plate this weekend from a pinhole workshop taught by Eric Renner and Nancy Spencer of the Pinhole Resource in NM that I'm trying out when I have the time. I would suggest you look them up sometime if you're interested in pinhole work. I put my F3 down for a few months, and just, had fun. When I came back to it, the inspiration and ideas came like never before. Take it easy.
Wow! Very well done. I'ts amazing what can be done with a toy camera in the hands of an artist. Can't figure out why you included the edge of the negative that indicates the film type. To me, this distracts from this beautiful image. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Thank you everyone for your comments. I've been lurking a while now and finally got it up to start uploading some images.
Don - this was the first negative carrier I made by hand. The one the school provided cropped out parts of the image, and that really bothered me. I'll agree, the opening is a little too large and perhaps the film information is distracting at times. Hopefully during spring break I'll have a chance to cut up a new one. Cheers.
Hi, love your work. Being from Amarillo, I know Lubbock. I love the Holga too but haven't had much of a chance to use mine. And I agree not too many trees in Lubbock that I remember.
