Colorado Cowgirl

We were hiking near Evergreen and stumbled across her ..luckily I had my $14 medium format camera with me. I bleached this back a bit to bring in some highlights and used a dillute sepia to brighten up the midtowns

I didn't notice any trouble with the focus. The rock gets interesting detail and the softness gives character to the woman. I like the overall composition and the use of an holga gives an otherwordly feel to it.

Now if you really want to see a poorly composed, out of focus picture (cheezy soft focus), and poorly lit check this out. http://www.artfoto.ch/media/freework/stillife.jpg

People in glass houses should not throw stones. So lay off the Holga bashing JohnArs. It's tiresome. If you have nothing nice to say, or at least constructive, keep it to yourself please.

I'm a little surprised since this is not the Critique gallery so I agree if you don't have any thing pleasant to say, say nothing. I rather like it. Nice expression.

hi vic - -

i like the expression and the background in this portrait ( the rock doesn't bother me at all). it kind of gives me an uneasy feeling i can't describe, the the whole thing gives me impression of a film-still of some sort. i can't put my finger on why, its almost like there is something else going on here.

i gotta lay off the david lynch movies!

I couldn't take this photo - none of the focus settings on my Holga indicate a cowboy hat - so unless i came across someone with a perfectly round head (or a group of such people)... I would have to shoot the mountains

Jokes aside, critique or not - I really don't see the faults with this photo - I like the composition, the soft, dreamy quality and especially the tonality (whatever part of it survived the transfer to digital form, I am sure the print is a million times more radiant still). Way to go - another Holga proving where the most important part of any photo system is located: behind the viewfinder! Cheers,

Peter.

I dont find anything wrong with the focus... I like soft focus portraits. But I would crop the entire right hand side.

manjo - I disagree. This is not a typical portrait, and I think it would lose some of its content, its impact by application of traditional portrait composition rules. Then again, this is strictly a matter of interpretation. Cheers,

Peter.
