My Grandma

My Grandma

This is my Grandma of 94 that I shot of her last summer. Me and My son made a trip to Iowa last summer to photographer her and the surrounding area. Thank goodness we did. On December 8th 2015, she passed away.

'Can only echo the sentiments both on the photo (wonderful), and sad for your loss. I can't imagine another photo of her coming anywhere near this superb shot.

Well done! My entire family died before I had kids, so photographs are all they'll ever have of their grandparents. Oddly one great grandparent, my maternal grandmother, outlived all her children and was alive when my daughter was born, but gramma died before we could get them together. The photo is simply excellent for all the stated reasons, but the fact that it's in front of her home makes it all the more wonderful. Perfect locale.

Really nicely done. Normally I'd comment against the fig leaf pose with the hands but in reality this is probably the way it was comfortable for her to stand.

I would agree too.. Was more about comfort but still works in this case. photographing the elderly is kind of limited on the poses it seams. Maybe we should start a thread or link on a "how to" on posing the elderly. It would help me in future shoots.

The other thing I really liked about it is the house. I could just be projecting but with the house it adds such a dimension not only about that she may have lived here for years and years and with her husband, and when you came to visit, which makes it extremely real to you as you were growing up. So I love the powerful context, because there is something about old people and their houses. It has a permanence, a stability and a base for the extended family including you.
