I like your quirky sense of humor. I looked through your "portfolio" here and I thought I'd give my sense of your "style". As I've written before sometimes it's handy to have someone unbiased tell people what they see in their work. Firstly I see a good eye. Able to walk around and find interesting subject matter and capture it with good composition. Your sense of humor is obvious in most of your pictures which also has a small town, newspaper photojournalist eye for visual entertainment, as well a bit of pathos and quirkiness. It's fun stuff. What I also see is the small town newspaper thing of working 9-5 in the fact that your pictures seem to mostly have middle daytime light, which tends to not allow pictures to excel to a higher level. It keeps them folksy instead of possessing the gravitas and social commentary that some of them deserve. Also when you take away the humor, there is an underlying social statement that may appear first to be masked as humor, but in reality may be a bigger statement of melancholy and impending decay, much like is seen on a larger scale in the rust belt. In fact you sort of seem attracted to this. In this particular picture you chose the decay but also included in your camera angle the "new" contrasted in the background which I suppose could be hope. With a higher camera angle you could easily have eliminated the background which you chose not to do. You also seem drawn to "entanglements" which could be just the dynamic nature of them visually or could mean something else. Perhaps feeling trapped. If I was critiquing your work I would probably say, that I like your humor and your visuals but they strike me as a guy who spends his days telling his friends jokes in the coffee shop but is unwilling or uninterested to get up on stage and perfect the routines to make them "important". Which is fine, it's a hobby. But, in your pictures I see the statements made, the elements in place, the talent, but the unwillingness to make them stronger and more refined. And that is generally due to the unremarkable lighting. I hope I wasn't insulting.

I like the shot, Gerry. Its all there. 'Tones, textures, detail. No distractions. Some shots in your gallery are from Oregon coast. If that's where you hail from - I'm just over the hill in Columbia Cty. Hollar if I could be of any help.
