This image is more a botanical illustration than a photograph, in the sense that it displays everything you need to know about the plant, but there is little emotional added value (at least that's how I see it).What makes the image attractive is, as you pointed out, the detail you can get lost in. That, I believe, is the greatest value of LF: being able to squeeze a huge amount of visual information into an image, so much that your eyes and mind can wander for a long time through the photo. The more time your eyes spend wandering through an image, the more interesting it becomes.
