Grenadine flower

I really like the composition, but I wish the contrast had not gone so high on this one.

Thanks Keith ! I wanted to convey the idea of an Art-Deco lamp, and I've always printed the image with that thought in mind. Never considered the contrast excessive. I wonder if with a lower contrast I would either loose the white glow, or the deep black ? Where do you think the image would benefit from lower contrast ?

Hi Peter- I agree that it needs the deep black in the background. I just wonder if it would benefit from more texture in the blossom part, especially the round bulb section seems too dark to me (with limited gradation) and the top of the small leaf too white/featureless. Just thinking... some of these more recent images are approaching graphic art style high contrast, although of course I don't know the actual progression/sequence. To my eye it has crossed over the line of "glow" into washed out highlights... which is not meant as a criticism - just one man's response. I'm paying close attention to your work, as I am gearing up to do some plant images myself soon and your excellent shots are helping me think through some of my own visual ideas. Maybe you will see my portfolio images which are somewhat similar (in that they are small items shot against black void backgrounds).
