I was originally attracted by the exquisite color and beautiful high-gloss finish. I wanted to emphasize the glistening body and wing panels, so I chose a backlit view and sunlight-balanced fill. I tried a lower perspective attempting to hide the tree line, people, and straighten the intentionally tilted horizon, but that lost both the cockpit instrumentation and upswept aircraft angle. So I compromised.

A great picture of the kind of plane that belongs to the age of air romance. I love that ribbed fuselage and open radial engine. With your girlfriend or Meryl Streep will do :D, you fly the Grand Canyon in this or point out the herds of wildebeest and elephants on the African Plains from about 50 feet.

What a wonderful comment. I love people who simply allow themselves and their imaginations to become lost in a photograph like that, instead of laboriously dwelling on the nuts and bolts. It's the difference between just looking and really seeing. As I walked several times around this exquisite example of a long ago age, I was thinking my own very similar thoughts. Thanks for that.

What a gorgeous aircraft. I mean this image is stunning with an excellent POV. I love the fact the tires are in view too. The black objects throughout the biplane just really add to the detail of the image. And it's the right color for me too. My race car was 76 Corvette yellow.

I'm not sure I can comment rationally on a good Stearman photo. I see that picture and I can hear one warming up on the ramp outside my old office door.

Very nice. Brings back memories of the time I had the privilege of being a passenger in one.

Love the angle and the cropping. These tail draggers always look to me like they're raring to go and get up there. It's like a puppy. Cant wait to get going. Your cropping and angle, rather than show the whole plane, which is always a tendency, instead offers an invitation into the cockpits. And although you could have knelt down a bit and knocked off the crowd and tents, your choice offers context. Of course the color makes it as well. Nice job.

By an amazing coincidence I have just watched the film"The English Patient" and clearly I am not alone in thinking that the Boeing-Stearman is a romantic plane. It was used in this film and fits in exactly with the sentiments of the film which is a tragic romance story. The plane was the same bright yellow and so may many of this type of plane have been but maybe, just maybe Ken what you photographed was the actual plane that was used

You and I need to go visit vintage airshows together. We think alike. And although a rich brilliant yellow seems to be the predominant Stearman color, and it would be nice to think so...
