'L' Station Madison-Wabash

From a recent trip to New Orleans and Chicago - thanks APUGGERs for the advice on what to see and do in each city. We stayed at the Silversmith Hotel, right below this station and made good use of it over our holiday week.

This is a nice impression of the city view. Excellent job with the shift lens. I like the angle of view and tonality in this image. I wonder when you print this image you might get some more details in the blacks of the train station. I have a FM3a myself and use it when I want to wander around with a light but good camera. I often use the 2.8/45 P (pancake) lens with this camera.

Very good use of the shift lens. Strong composition, with the vertical lines in the upper, and the converging lines in the lower half!

Thanks for the feedback. I have made several 11x14 prints. Quite a tricky print as subject brightness range between the Trump tower/sky and the platform is very wide. I probably could have given the negative another stop to get more shadow detail but was also conscious of not wanting to do too much burning in. I flashed the top half of the paper before exposing but still needed about twice as much exposure and some grade 5 burning in the top to get the final print I like. The lens is a Ukrainian Arsat 35mm PCS f2.8 I bought many years ago but don't use that much. It is quite sharp but there is some evident distortion as the shifting is cranked up. I didn't need too much shift in this shot as I was on the higher level walkway over the tracks. Also, I don't use Delta 100 that often but I do like its tonal range in the mid zones. The building on the left leaps off the paper!

This really looks like the Stalinist, heroic-socialist, futuristic photography of the 30's. What a beautiful world we're all going to inhabit in the 21st century.
