Sous-bois

I shot these beautiful 5-foot high ferns last june. They don't stay pretty like that for long as they will turn brown over the summer.

Metering the scene wasn't easy (sunny morning) and I don't have the means to bracket with 4x5 slide film. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, even if there are some blown highlights.

I will probably come back to that place next june on an overcast day and try Velvia this time.

lovely shot. can you explain more about what you meant when you wrote, "i don't have the means to bracket with 4x5 slide film"? what would you need that you don't have? i'm pretty new to large format photography and would appreciate knowing more about bracketing with 4x5 film means. cheers!

Thanks for the comments! oolalajp : I was referring to the higher cost of slide film and processing, which for me amount to about $9 per shot. I will sometimes bracket slide film in medium format. Bracketing means to take the same photo with differents exposures, when one is uncertain which exposure is the best. I can't afford to do that with 4x5 slide film.
